⚠️ Important Notes & Best Practices
- Google Maps shows only 120–200 results per keyword + location. For more complete data, split large regions into smaller areas to increase the number of queries.
❓ FAQs
Q: Can I bypass the 120–200 results limit on Google Maps?
No. Google Maps restricts each keyword + location query to roughly 120–200 results. The best way to collect more data is to split large regions into smaller areas and run multiple queries.
Q: I typed my keyword, but nothing loads — what did I do wrong?
Check the following:
• One keyword per line
• Keyword includes a location (e.g., “bakery Chicago”)
• You kept the browser window active during the run
• You selected a supported run mode
Q: What should I enter for “Number of Pages to Scrape”?
This controls how many Google Maps result pages Octoparse loads for each keyword.
Recommended default: 100.
For this template, a single keyword usually returns up to about 200 Google Maps listings, so 100 is used as a safe loading cap to avoid stopping before all available results are loaded.
This field is a loading cap, not a promise that 100 pages of results will be collected. The scraper stops when Google Maps has no more results to load.
Use a smaller value only when you intentionally want a quick test, top-result sample, or smaller output.
Q: The scraper paused — was this a CAPTCHA?
Yes. Google occasionally displays CAPTCHAs for heavy activity.
Solution:
- Pause the task
- Complete the CAPTCHA
- Resume
- The scraper will continue exactly where it left off.
Q: Why is phone or website data missing for some businesses?
Some listings hide these details until a user opens the sidebar panel.
Octoparse extracts whatever fields Google makes visible per listing.
